Introduction:

In a praiseworthy endeavor, the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan takes proactive measures against malnutrition through the impactful School Khana Program. Spearheaded by the government and amplified by Allah Walay Trust (AWT), this collaborative initiative not only prioritizes the health and education of young minds but extends its reach to encompass comprehensive BMI, vision, and hearing testing, showcasing a holistic commitment to the well-being of the region’s children.

Addressing a Crucial Need:

Recognizing the staggering statistic that 50%-60% of students in Pakistan experience dizziness due to hunger, the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan took decisive action to provide daily meals to primary school students, ensuring their physical and mental well-being.

Unprecedented Collaboration:

This initiative is the first-of-its-kind in Pakistan, symbolizing the government’s commitment to the nutritional needs of primary school students. Allocating a grant of Rs.100 million for implementation of the program in 100 schools, the provincial government has played a pivotal role in making this initiative a reality.

Extensive Reach and Impact:

Currently operational in Gilgit City, Chillas, and Skardu, the School Khana Program runs in 76 schools, benefiting 12,432 students daily. The menu, designed with meticulous attention to nutritional requirements, includes diverse meals like Aloo Qeema, Daal Chawal, and Channa Pilao.

Holistic Approach to Education:

The program is not just about addressing hunger; it’s a comprehensive effort to improve health, social behavior, and act as an incentive for parents to send their children to school regularly. This holistic approach aligns with the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan’s vision for quality education and overall child development.

Challenges:

While the School Khana Program initiated by the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan and Allah Walay Trust (AWT) has achieved commendable success, sustaining and expanding it poses a financial challenge. The Government lacks the financial capacity to extend this vital program to more schools, making external support imperative.

Support for Program Extension:

Join hands to extend the impactful School Khana Program in Gilgit-Baltistan. The Government lacks resources for broader implementation. Your support is crucial to adopting 10 schools, requiring Rs. 10 million. Shape a brighter future by nourishing young minds. Act now to make a lasting impact.
